Charles Oliveira da Silva, also known as Charles Oliveira, is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist. While participating in the lightweight class, his profile has grown. He made his UFC debut in August 2010, winning the submission of the night for his victory over Darren Elkins during a UFC Live taping.
At the age of 12, he started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and made his professional MMA debut in Brazil in 2008. During his second UFC bout, Charles defeated Efrain Escudero via submission to win submission of the night. During his UFC 162 encounter against Frankie Edgar, he was involved in the fight of the night. Charles Oliveira admits his dreadful vision is only at 50 percent without glasses
Charles Oliveira has disclosed the frightening degree of his poor vision, confessing that without glasses he can only see roughly 50% of the time. At the end of last year, the UFC lightweight champion despatched Dustin Poirier to defend his title, and his accomplishments are all the more astonishing considering his poor eyesight.
He joked that since his vision is so terrible, he sees three copies of each opponent and only hits the middle one. To Brazilian MMA Legends, he added, “So I see three.” ‘It’ll be OK if I strike the center one.’ “Keep this method,” I thought. “For me, three men is the ideal number. It’s OK if I’m hitting the center of the field.”
Outside of the octagon, Oliveira wears thick spectacles and often puts them on for his ring walk, giving him an appearance that is far from what one would expect from one of the world’s most dangerous guys. And, despite his poor eyesight, he claims that it never interferes with the battle. ‘I’ll tell you the truth: I’m a man with a lot of confidence in God, and it’s not a joke,’ he continued.
‘Without my spectacles, I can only see approximately 50% of the time.’ But it never got in the way of my struggle. ‘It has never hampered me in a battle.’ I come in without my glasses on certain days and with them on other days.
‘It depends on how I’m feeling.’ ‘Sometimes I prefer to stroll in with the spectacles on to seem harmless and dorkier than I actually am,’ Oliveira said. When I take off my spectacles, everything returns to normal. On the opposite side, I can see my opponent. ‘God has blessed me so greatly that I can see things as they are.’ But if I take it off on the street, I’ll be blind.’
