    Aileen Wuornos has struggled her whole life. Her care was always a nightmare, marked by insecurity, claimed sexual assault, and homelessness.

    Aileen Wuornos, full name Aileen Carol Wuornos, was an American serial murderer who killed at least seven people between 1989 and 1990.

    She was born on February 29, 1956, in Rochester, Michigan, and passed away on October 9, 2002, in Starke, Florida.

    Wuornos had a really difficult upbringing. Before she was born, her parents divorced, and her father eventually served time for child abuse in mental facilities.

    Wuornos and her brother were taken to live with her grandparents when they were four years old.

    She lived in a facility for single moms throughout her early adolescence, dropped out of school, and eventually went to prostitution.

    Because of all the hardships she had growing up, she later resorted to prostitution and violence. Additionally, Wuornos murdered seven men between 1989 and 1990.

    After her arrest in 2002, Aileen established herself as the most creative female serial murderer in history and received a death sentence.

    Wuornos was jailed in 1974 for both drunken driving and shooting a pistol while a moving car. She was then repeatedly held up on suspicion of forging checks, vehicle theft, and armed robbery. By the end of the 1980s, she was a nomad.

    She murdered seven middle-aged male motorists in Florida and southern Georgia from 1989–1990 while acting as a hitchhiking prostitute.

    Some people believe she may have killed an additional driver during the same time period.

    When she was arrested at the beginning of 1991, she confessed to the murders but said she acted in self-defense when the guys attacked her.

    Wuornos’ supporters saw her as a powerful, independent woman who even deserves praise for protecting herself against male abuse.

    She was found guilty of one of the killings in 1992 and given the death penalty. Later, she revealed that she had murdered for money rather than out of self-defense and had claimed guilty to three more of the homicides.

    A lethal injection was used to put her to death. Along with her crime, she also revealed certain details about the serial murderer that we were unaware of.

    She was never able to meet his father since he was arrested before she was born. Later, in 1969, when she was a teenager, her father hanged himself from the prison ceiling.

    She claimed that she murdered Richard Mallory in self-defense when he attempted to rape her at the time she was found guilty of his murder. Following the attack, Richard was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

    Later in 2002, after being evaluated as mentally competent by three separate doctors, then-Gov. of Florida, Jeb Bush removed a temporary stay of execution and signed her death warrant.
