Known for his outstanding performances as a Texan dubbed “Cowboy” in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket” (1987), as “Peter Ludlow” in “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997), and as “Richard DeTamble” in “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” Arliss Howard is an American actor, director, and screenwriter (2009).

Many people mistakenly think that Arliss Howard made his acting debut in Kubrick’s movie, however, the actor had previously played a foolish vacuum cleaner salesman in “Door to Door” (1984).

In “Plain Clothes,” he also made an appearance as a baby-faced high school kid (1988). Howard continued to perform roles far into the 1990s that were seen as “second fiddle” to the leading actors of the day. He appeared in the film “Men Don’t Leave,” which featured Jessica Lange (1990).

He starred in “Crisscross” (1992) and “For the Boys” as a troubled Vietnam veteran (1991). His first union, with Karen Mary Sellars, ended quickly. In 1996, he wed Debra Winger.

Sam Howard, from his first wedding, and Gideon “Babe” Howard, from his second marriage, are both of his sons.

Howard had an appearance in the 2011 film Moneyball as well as the CBS drama series Medium. He was the director of the movies “Big Bad Love” (2002) and “Dawn Anna” (2005).

He and his brother Jim Howard co-wrote the scripts for both movies. Both of these films had Debra Winger, his wife, as the lead. In Bette Midler’s “GI Husband,” he played a USO performer but was not given credit for it.

“I Know My First Name Is Steven” (1989) and “Iran: Days of Crisis” are two of his outstanding TV movies (1991).
