Emmanuel Rodriguez began his career as a national young athlete. In the Juegos Nacionales Escolares 2006, he defeated Emmanuel Ramirez of Arecibo in the 13-14 years (41 kg) class. He won his first fight by unanimous decision against Francisco Melendez, the Mexican National Light Flyweight Champion.
