Eric Dier is an English professional footballer who plays defensive midfielder, center back, and right back for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team.
Early years
Eric Dier’s full name is Eric Jeremy Edgar Dier, and he was born in Cheltenham, England, on January 15, 1994. Louise Dyer, a former professional tennis player, is his father, and Jeremy Dier is his mother. Ted Croker, his grandpa, is the president of Cheltenham Town and a former secretary of “The Football Association.” When he was seven years old, his family relocated to England.
Career
At the age of eight, Dier was seen by his teacher while playing football at the International Preparatory School in Libson, and he was referred to Sporting scout. In April 2010, he signed a professional contract with Sporting. He joined Everton on loan in January 2011 and played ten times for the U18s, winning the U18 Premier League in 2010-11. He also agreed to prolong his loan at Everton Academy for another twelve months.
On August 26, 2012, Dier made his Segunda Liga debut with Sporting B in the 2012-2013 season. On November 4, 2012, he scored his first senior goal. On November 11, 2012, he was called up to the first team in Primeira Liga. On August 2, 2014, Dier signed a five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur. On the first day of the 2014-15 Premier League season, he made his first appearance for the club. On September 9, 2015, he signed a new deal that will extend till 2020. During the 2015-2016 seasons, he was forced to play as a defensive midfielder. On August 15, he scored his first Premier League goal for Tottenham Hotspur. He got a new deal on September 13, 2016, that will extend till 2021. In Tottenham’s first group match, he made his UEFA Champions League debut. He also captained Totten ham for the first time in a game against Liverpool, which they won.
Career Opportunities on the Global Stage
Dier was called up for the first time in November of 2011. On May 28, 2013, he was named to a 21-man roster for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. On June 16, he made his debut and defeated Uruguay. On August 13, 2013, he earned his England under-21 debut in a win over Scotland. On November 5, 2015, Dier was also named for the senior team to travel to England. He scored his first international goal on March 26, 2016. He was also selected for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France. On November 10, 2017, he was named captain of the England squad.
Dier was picked to England’s 23-man World Cup squad, and he captained the team in the final group stage match against Belgium.
