Chicago Blackhawks owner apologises for his response to Kyle Beach discussion
Rocky Wirtz, Chicago Blackhawks’ owner, refused to answer questions about the Kyle Beach suit that has engulfed the organization for the majority of the past year. One reporter asked Wirtz and Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz about Chicago’s plans to prevent power imbalances between coaches and players in the future. Rocky Wirtz was feisty in his responses and later apologized through a team statement for his reply. Wirtz spoke out at a town meeting. It was the first time the franchise’s top leaders had faced questions in public since the team published a report by an outside law firm that found the organization badly mishandled Kyle Beach’s allegations that he was assaulted by then-video coach Brad Aldrich during the team’s run to the 2010 Stanley Cup title. Wirtz released that his response to two questions at the Chicago Blackhawks Town Hall was not appropriate. I apologize to those who asked questions and to those covering the game. My response was not in keeping with the organization’s great efforts to improve. We have the right leaders, and the right processes to ensure that our players and employees are safe.
