Her first cinematic role was in the dramatic 2013 picture “12 Years a Slave”, for which she earned an Oscar. She played Maz Kanata in “Star Wars” and Nakia in “Black Panther”. Lupita featured in the 2009 MTV serial opera “Shuga” as Ayira and in the 2008 short film “East River” as F.
