Naomi Campbell is a British supermodel who gained popularity in the late 1980s and has since become known for her trailblazing career. She is considered one of the most successful models of all time, having graced more than 1,000 magazine covers worldwide during her career.

Campbell was one of six models (along with Pat Cleveland, Grace Jones, Lisa Taylor, and Iman) who defined the “supermodel” category in the fashion industry during an 11-year period from 1977–1988. The international press declared Campbell to be “The Model of the Decade” between 1984 and 1993

Educational Background

At age 15, Naomi attended the Barbara Speake Stage School and began her modeling career after being discovered by a scout from Synchro Model Agency. She had studied dance since she was 3 years old—and continued to do so until 16; however, it was only then that she decided to pursue modeling as well.

Career

Campbell had her first public appearance in the 1978 music video for Bob Marley’s song “Is This Love” when she was 8 years old. She performed tap dancing in the music videos for “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” by Culture Club from 1983 and “Mistake Number 3” from 1984.

Campbell’s modeling career reached new heights when she graced the cover of Numéro Russia’s first-ever issue in March 2013. She also ventured into the world of reality television through her involvement in The Face and its various international versions. In the United States, she had the honor of being a mentor and judge along with the industry icons Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha on Oxygen’s popular show, The Face.
